DAY 2
Learning about editing
During the morning of Day 2 the children were shown
how to transfer their footage to the computer and edit it using
iMovie software. It did not take them long to learn, and the footage
of Sean dancing provided some excellent raw material to work with.
Working in their groups the children created some
exciting sequences and experimented by adding different soundtracks,
slow motion and fast cutting.
Planning and Scripting
By mid morning break after most of the short edited
sequences were completed the leaders introduced the concept of planning
and scripting to the children who had had lots of ideas for stories
and themes. Refining the scripts them proved slightly more difficult
than the practical aspects.
Setting the scene
When the groups decided (through negotiating with
leaders) that they had planned sufficiently well they gathered together
their props, decided on locations and set up their equipment and
set off to shoot their scenes. Each group had a leader - who only
intervened as required - and offered suggestions if asked. At regular
intervals there would be a group evaluation with the leaders.
Leaders rotated between the groups to ensure a variety
of inputs and so the leaders could evaluate progress at the end
of the day when the children had gone home.
